Life's Little detours-Getting back on track

Has there ever been a time in your life God told you to do something and you took a detour. Abraham did, God told him to go from his Father's house and his relatives to a land which he would show him. God also gave him some promises, he would make him a great nation, he would bless him, and make his name great and he would be a blessing; and all the families of the earth would be blessed. Genesis 12 NASV.

There are all kind of detours in our walk of faith with the Lord. Detours that take us away from the place of blessing away from the will of God out of fear and doubt we don't believe the promises of God, they are not visible we can not put our hands on them. Abraham left the place of blessing to go to Egypt. Abraham doubted the provisions of God not trusting the promise God made to bless him.

God has a way of getting our attention and bringing us right back to the altar of worship and dependence on him. Consider the unsaved millionaire who comes to the close of a life that afforded him every luxury. Like all unsaved men, he has but one thought "Life is almost over. Why do I feel as though I have missed something?" Indeed, a life lived without God misses the whole point of our existence. Man's soul is God-given, and man is meant to JOIN his soul with his MAKER. St. Augustine wrote, "Thou hast made us in Thy likeness, and our souls are restless until they repose in thee." God gives man the authority to choose his own path, but not without consequences. For Jonah, his first journey was a choice to go it alonewithout God. When he boarded a ship for Tarshish, he was operating on self-will. But when a violent storm suddenly overtook the ship, Jonah was cast overboard and swallowed by a big fish, and had a few days to rethink his choice. Life gave Jonah a second chance. He finally saw the detour sign on the road of life, and that sign led him back to God.

When we are in the belly of despair and the land of famine and it looks like God is not speaking we can trust in his promises and know that every word which proceeds out of the mouth of God will not fail all of his promises are yes and amen. Faith is an active belief moving us forward to the will of God. God brought Abraham and Jonah right back to the place they were in the beginning. I find this very interesting that God will not move us forward until we repent of our detours.

It is always better to do it God's way we will avoid the consequences of disobediences.
